Lecture by Prof. Dr. Enno Edzard Popkes
Various studies in the history of religions show that belief in angels and personal guardian angels is one of the elements of contemporary religiosity that has increased significantly. Corresponding to this development, belief in angels has now even become commercially exploited (see, among other things, so-called “angel congresses”).
The lecture will outline, on the one hand, the specific forms and contents that such a belief in angels can take. On the other hand, it will explain the religious-historical background on which these figures of contemporary religiosity are based.
